Areas of Clinical Specialisation
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions with significant physical consequences. Dr. Singaravelu has been Lead Consultant for the Buckinghamshire CAMHS Eating Disorder Service and is one of the most experienced private specialists in this area.
Conditions Treated
- Anorexia Nervosa
- Bulimia Nervosa
- Binge Eating Disorder
- ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)
- Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders (OSFED)
Treatment Approach
A family-based approach is central to treatment for younger patients. Dr. Singaravelu combines evidence-based therapies — including Family-Based Treatment (FBT), CBT-E, and systemic family therapy — with careful medical monitoring and, where needed, medication management.
Depression & Mood Disorders
Depression in young people is often misunderstood or undetected. It can manifest as irritability, social withdrawal, declining school performance, or physical complaints as much as sadness.
Conditions Treated
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Self-harm and suicidal ideation (low risk)
Treatment Approach
Assessment of mood disorders includes a full psychiatric history, risk assessment, and family context. Treatment is tailored — combining psychotherapy, psychoeducation, family work, and medication where clinically indicated. Dr. Singaravelu also helps families understand and navigate crisis situations safely.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in young people, and often goes untreated for years. Left unaddressed, it can significantly impact schooling, friendships, and development.
Conditions Treated
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)
- PTSD & complex trauma
- Social Anxiety Disorder
- Panic Disorder
- Specific Phobias
- School refusal & separation anxiety
Treatment Approach
Treatment draws on CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, trauma-focused therapies for PTSD, and systemic approaches for family patterns that may maintain anxiety. Dr. Singaravelu supports both the young person and their parents throughout.
ADHD
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting attention, impulse control, and activity levels. It can present very differently in boys and girls, and is often missed or misdiagnosed — particularly in adolescent girls.
